I think we all want to give our kids a better life than the one we had. Even if our lives were great. Giving my girls a life I didn’t have, used to mean just giving them something I didn’t have or providing them with a better quality of life. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact that’s still my goal, but now only part of it.
I believe I can achieve all of my goals as a dad especially if I focus my efforts on giving them an upgraded operating system…aka an upgraded mindset, upgraded beliefs and habits. Bottomline: give my girls an environment, both internally and externally, where they can learn, grow and prosper.
Now let’s be clear, I appreciate what my parents taught me, but I can still improve upon it just as I expect my daughters to upgrade what I taught them once they have children of their own. Especially because I understand that what I taught them may be outdated by the time they have kids. They’ll have things to add or subtract of their own.
Again, what I want to repeat is that my focus as a leader is not to just be resourceful in the way I provide for my children but also to be resourceful in the way I build up my children.
For me, this means:
- Creating an environment where they can mess up, learn and grow
- Instilling a powerful identity that plays to their strengths
- Building an empowering mindset to overcome any obstacles
- Teaching them to be unattached to outcome and to just enjoy the process
Similarly, we all are leaders and we have an opportunity to be a resource for our families, clients, and greater community by empowering and enriching the lives of those around us.
Our guest, Danielle Short has done a remarkable job at owning her role as a leader and has found purpose in being an educator to her clients, team and community.
Here is some insight into her morning routine and mental practice:
- Every evening before I get ready for bed I prepare a list of what needs to be done for the next day.
- Every day I find some way of communication to my clients/general public that I can involve myself in whether it is an e-blast, phone calls, text messages, social media or old fashioned letters.
- I observe what’s currently going on in the real estate/economic market based on articles that I receive, information I find on the web etc. based on this information I will come up with a topic that seems pertinent.
- My process/ mindset is to continually visualize what I want for my business. Phone calls coming in, seeing emails for showings/new listings/ buyers, finding new and innovative marketing ideas, etc…
- As I am waking up, making coffee, etc.. and getting ready to enter my office I put my attention on business and begin an intuitive visualization process.
Resourceful leaders are the ones that have a big impact on our society. They’re able to think outside of what’s typically expected and create new opportunities for themselves & those around them. It’s the leaders who have a high degree of resourcefulness and creativity that create the most impact. These are individuals with an ability to see something in its totality, both what is going on outside themselves as well as inside them.
