Wailea & Ka’anapali – Beautiful South & West Maui Beaches

HAWAII tourism, hawaii travel, hawaii trip, hawaii vacation, hawaii vacations, hawaii activitiesI’m telling you that one of my favorite things about staying in Upcountry Maui is going to bed and waking up with near perfect weather. What I mean specifically is it generally rains as we go to sleep and the rain wakes us up in the morning too. However, by the time we start getting ourselves ready for the day, the sun breaks through and we have the best weather on Maui.

Day 11 of our trip to Maui, HI started with Makena folding some laundry and playing with random coconut milk containers. haha. She is easily entertained and keeps herself busy with just about anything. She has an active imagination. On this day, Makena had some extra energy as she was in great spirits due to the chiropractic adjustment she had the day prior.

Knowing we were heading to South & West Maui, we started the day early and packed as much snacks, water and toys as we could. First stop, Wailea. A few days before Randon, Melissa and Luckas had arrived, Kari, Makena and I spent the day in Wailea where a local told us about this great beach for kids the locals call “Secret Beach.” We had such a great time that we wanted to take the Guerpo’s there too.

However, when we arrived, it was much more windy. Don’t get me wrong, it was still beautiful with clear skies, however the water murky and the waves were choppy. We walked down to the beach to set up our tent and get settled in. Makena wasted no time and started to play with whatever she could get her hands on. Sand, rocks, food, bottles, you name it. As long as we kept her occupied, she wWest Maui Beachesas happy. We stayed for an hour or so hoping it would improve and it did!  We were in paradise again!

Of course, being on Maui means I do my best to capture all the footage that I can. I quickly set up two different cameras to capture some time-lapses; one looking directly out into the horizon and another looking off right against the horizon. Setting up these cameras gives an opportunity to capture paradise in it’s raw and real form. This footage plays a big part in our travel vlogs and client videos. It’s always better to work with too much footage than not enough I always say.

After spending the morning at Wailea, we packed up our stuff and headed out to our next stop, Ka’anapali Coast. The moment we got on the road, Makena immediately fell a sleep. She was obviously exhausted from our morning.

Ka’anapali Beach is located just north of Lahaina, Maui. Lahaina is possibly the largest and most active city in West Maui. Here you will find a mix of resorts, parks, beaches, malls, The Sugar Cane Train and the largest Banya Tree in the United States. Lahaina is definitely a must see while visiting Maui.

If yWest Maui Beachesou ever make your way to Ka’anapali, parking can be a bit tricky. You’re options are to park in a small public parking lot next to the resorts, or park at the Whalers Village Mall and get your ticket validated. The beaches are worth the headache as you will find pristine beaches and wonderful amenities nearby. My goal was to jump off of Black Rock with my buddy Randon. Black Rock is a huge lava formation that sits just off the shoreline beach where you can jump off into deep waters. Another great aspect of Black Rock is the shallow waters within the same area that are great for snorkeling and swimming.

Of course, we ended the day with a great sunset. Wow, I really love the Island of Maui.  It has provided our family with many memories that we will never forget. Mahalo and Aloha!
