Day 3 of exploring the North Shore Maui started off with a delicious vegan homemade breakfast made by my wife, as Makena and I planned our day on the North Shore. We shortly set out for our day packed with adventure and to enjoy nature, views and weather while we got some amazing shots. Maui never ceases to amaze me with it’s never-ending supply of stunning views and exciting experiences.
We headed to Ho’okipa beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. One of the main attractions there are the amazing ocean views from the lookout. We got to see tons of colorful tropical fish and sea turtles, which were barely an arm’s length away. They are protected and have a designated space which is off limits for humans. It was really an unforgettable experience and I made sure to get plenty of footage. This island is paradise! It was a nonstop day and although we weren’t able to find any good coffee the excitement of the day kept us going.
On our way to Haiku, we decided to go on a nice scenic drive with Makena at the wheel, don’t worry although she was distracted looking at mommy, I kept both hands on the wheel. Haiku is one of the “bigger” small towns in the area, and we love stopping there for lunch and walk around the quaint town of Haiku. A little further on, we hit Pa’ia, another of our favorite spots along the North Shore Maui. It’s the town closest to Ho’okipa beach, and the last town on the Hana Highway. This cute community is full of color and street art. We loved finding all the murals depicting sea creatures on the walls throughout town.
We stopped in Kihei to get some tasty vegan treats, especially some ice cream to accompany us on that hot and humid day. And of course, we couldn’t leave Maui without making a stop at Makena beach, the same very beach we named after our first born after! She is so full of life and as adventurous as they come. When we got to the beach she immediately started to play in the sand and chased the waves as we enjoyed the unbeatable Island sunset.
North Shore Maui is a regular destination for vacationing and of Hawaiian royalty, Kihei features six miles of beaches and truly makes us feel like royals. It’s also a great location for whale spotting, hopefully we’ll get lucky! We can’t wait for what the rest of our days have in store! We’ve got plenty of goals still left to accomplish before we leave this amazing island.
