There is nothing more glorious than waking up in an amazing house in beautiful upcountry Maui. We went to bed with our windows partially opened, listening to the soothing sound of rain falling and woke up to a beautiful sunny day. And there is something about the aloha lifestyle that helps our daughter sleep so well! It’s an amazing plus of living the island life!
On Day Two, we ventured up to Kula, just a short twenty minute drive from Haiku to check out the highly-recommended Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm. Nestled right on the slopes of Haleakala, you have the most amazing views of Maui from this 13.5 acre gem. It’s only $3 per person admission and there is so much you can do. We walked around looking at all the lavender and succulents, before heading into the gift shop to purchase some lavender lilikoi jelly for a friend. We snuck a sample and it was so delicious!
There is really so much to do in Upcountry Maui. At the Lavender Farm, we saw a lot of families doing a scavenger hunt, having picnics or eating in the little cafe they have here. You can choose to do a guided tour and really learn more about the farm and the island, although we opted out because having a very active 9 month old and tours don’t mix well!
After the lavender farm, we decided to check out the quaint little town of Makawao. It’s right in between Haiku and Kula and is such a cute little town. It’s really small, but full of cute boutiques, coffee shops and art galleries. We grabbed a bite at Habibi, which had a really cute outdoor sitting area and served some vegan Middle Eastern food. We ordered the Vegan Meza, which came with spiced chickpeas, tabouli, hummus, mixed greens, fried cauliflower, saffron rice and falafels! It was so delicious!!
After exploring, we headed back to our cottage so Makena could take a quick nap and we could relax a little!
Once she woke up, we drove down to Hookipa Beach, where we played in the water and watched the hundreds of turtles swim up to the sand! It was so cool because we have never seen so many up close and at one time. When we first got there we literally thought all of the turtles were rocks! If you are ever there make sure you go and check out that beach!
Day Two was a success! We loved checking out upcountry Maui and visiting new towns that we missed out on our last trip!
Stay tuned for Day Three’s Vlog!
